LebenMusikInterview mit der Band "Grand Café" aus Oslo, Norwegen

(For the english interview scroll down please)

Grand Café? Moment mal..

Nordicwannabe.com talked with Christer Krogh about the new album and other stuff:

Why do you use „grand café“ as a name for your band? Isn’t it a café in Oslo?

Christer Krogh: „Yeah it´s true, it´s a cafe, or a bar or anything all around the world. They even stole our old logo somewhere….At the time of starting up the band, we knew we didn´t want anything with THE in front, and we fooled around, all of a sudden we had this name „Grand Café“. At this time I didn´t know, it was a cafe or a restaurant somewhere.I just thought it sounds cool, in a strange way. We´ve got lot´s of shit thrown at us for the name, but a lot of people recognize it and think of us when they see all these cafe´s around!“

Is there a link to Norway in your music?

Christer: „Yeah I suppose there are some, but we aren´t really that into norwegian music as a inspiration. Don´t know why, but I think we are in a way draw more from the nature or Oslo, or something. We are more into american music from the west coast, and sounds. Sounds are one of my biggest influences writing and producing music.“

You work on a new album. Is that right? Can you tell a little bit about it?

Christer: „We are working on a new album, or at least at a lot of songs. We´ve been writing for a while, and demoing for a really long time. And soon it´s time to do some proper recording. Some music will come quite soon actually. We´ve always been used to sitting on a finished product for a long time before we release it. This time it´s the opposite. Record, mix, and release fast! It´s gonna sound magic!!!!“

What is your inspiration when you write new music?

Christer: „My inspiration for writing can be all sorts of things. A beat, a word, a smell, a felling, a chord, a sound, other peoples music. Anything. – Arranging and producing is a search for something we haven´t touched or done yet. When we record, we wanna gonna some place new. A bit tired of being in a safe place, sound wise. I think that´s why our records are quite different, and we wanna be that kind of a band. Our first EP was garage rock, played really loud, our debut album was a clean boogie record. Our second EP was dark and melodic, and in a way our second album was that as well. From small to gigantic and back again. Our next sound will be different from that. There is no release date yet, but it will be in January, and it will be two songs. It mights also be a video! What has a Nordicwannabe to do to become more nordic?

Christer: „The Nordicwannabe needs must be: He has to wear small shoes, white socks, black bowler hat and just love komle klomp kompe“ 🙂
