What was your inspiration for becoming a singer/ songwriter?

Aksel: „As a little boy, I always liked to sing along to Disney movies, and especially to harmonise to the ballads. So I guess that was my first inspiration becoming a singer. In later years I’ve discovered the world of songwriting. It was when I first truly listened to Maria Mena I realised it was ok to be honest, so I sat down with the piano and let my heart open, and it sesulted in my first whole length song “Moved On”.“

What kind of music do you like?

Aksel: „I enjoy listening to music that makes me feel something, either it’s sorrow and pain, butterflies, anger or rage. So as an artist I try to put myself out there and open my heart so the audience hopefully can feel and relate to the subject and be able to put them self in the situation of the song. It may sound crazy, but I feel like I’ve accomplished something when I see someone in the audience cry.“

Are you inspired by Norwegian music/nature/culture?

Aksel: „I find great inspiration in Maria Mena, who is the actual reason why I really startet to write my own songs. The way she so elegantly rhyme with words is admirable, and not to mention the heartfelt way she sings. Gives me the goose bumps every time! When it comes to the nature and culture of Norway I don’t really find much inspiration, but I guess I tend to write better songs in the winter when it’s cold and dark outside.“

What are your plans for the future?

Aksel: „Hopefully my debut album will be released sometime this year. It’s been a long journey, and I can’t wait to show off my new material. I think some of the listeners will be quite surprised over the … my music has taken, but it will still be Aksel Aune, just a bit more produced.“

What is important for a NordicWannabe?

Aksel: „It’s important to know your Norwegian sayings like “Herregud” (Oh my God), “Halla, hva skjer’a?”(Hey, what’s up?) and “Jeg elsker Norge!”(I love Norway). And you need to use the word “Pålegg” – which is actually everything you can put on bread, like cheese, jam, ham etc, it’s all just called “pålegg”. And I guess you need to like Norwegian nature, so be sure to go hiking in the Norwegian mountains. The view is breathtaking and the sunsets are amazing. Come to Norway!

Mange takk Aksel Aune!
